 hyacint

Spring colour from a bulb
In the middle of winter, the Hyacinth will already give you that feeling of spring - which is what the plant represents. Even if its hailing outside, its cheerful colours, proud floral magnificence and fresh scent mean the sun will always be shining indoors. It's not without reason that the Dutch bulb has Mediterranean roots. The Hyacinth is for sale in all different colours – purple, pink, blue, white, yellow and orange – and it looks especially nice if it's showcased alongside a few of its proud fellow chums.

Each plume bears dozens of little flowers which all blossom around the same time and disperse their fragrance. Research has shown that both the scent and colour of plants make people calm and happy; the Hyacinth also has that effect. It's therefore an ideal plant to put right in the middle of a room.

Easy to look after
The cheerful scent bomb doesn't need much attention. Once every few days (depending on how high you turn up the heating), give it a splash of water. It's not that bothered whether it's light or dark either. All it asks from you is support – with a stick or string – if its clusters of flowers gets too long and heavy. When it's flowered its last, it will have completed its cheery duty and can be thrown into the dustbin. Easy peasy.

Spot: Doesn't matter.
Water: Water regularly.
Special instructions: Help support its clusters of flowers now and again.

A beautiful plant really grows on you!
